Tray Design — NP300
Visual design concept for a custom Nissan NP300 ute tray, modelled from a full chassis scan and laid out around off-the-shelf canopy, box and drawer hardware.
Overview
A visual design concept for a custom ute tray on a Nissan NP300, developed so the layout could be assessed before any steel was cut. A full chassis scan provided the mounting geometry the tray had to sit on, and the tray, canopy, underbody boxes and rear slide-out drawer were laid out around off-the-shelf hardware rather than bespoke fittings. Renders cover the tray open and closed, with a checkerplate rear bar carrying combination tail lights, work lights, a number plate mount and mudflaps, giving the client a clear view of the finished configuration.
Key Features
Tray modelled directly onto scan data of the NP300 chassis
Packaged around an APB canopy and APB under-tray boxes
Dunn & Watson slide-out trundle drawer built into the tray floor
Rear bar carries HIMOD Drakon tail lights and plate mount
Concept renders produced for the client before fabrication began

Design Process
Attend site with KT Kustoms to 3D scan the NP300 chassis
Capture the full chassis with a Creality Ferret handheld scanner
Manage and clean the large point cloud data set for modelling use
Combine scan geometry with Kyle's measurements and build notes
Model the tray, canopy, under-tray boxes and trundle drawer in CAD
Render the concept for client sign-off ahead of fabrication
